just to comment on the hersh piece i linked to below.
what strikes me is how the bush administration, or maybe just cheney and his people, seem to see attacking iran as an end in itself. the article makes it seem like it's not about stopping nuclear proliferation, or regime change as much as just "hitting iran". that's why they can switch from a large scale attack on iran to surgical strikes without any thought of whether surgical strikes will accomplish whatever it is they're trying to accomplish.
indeed, it's not clear at all what the purpose of striking iran is, other than striking iran. which would be just a funny observation if bombing didn't also involve the murder of quite a few human beings. when there is no goal other than killing people, doesn't that make them a bunch of psychopaths?
